Clausholm Slot has a long and chequered history, which involves royal pride, undying love and tragic fate.
|
Clausholm appears in official records in the early 1300s, when Grand Chancellor Count Conrad Reventlow built the main house as we see it today.
But while the good count may have made his mark on the outside of Clausholm, the atmosphere and countless stories from within the walls can primarily be attributed to his youngest daughter, Anna Sophie, who was married to king Frederik IV's 'left hand' – necessary because he was already married to queen Louise.
The king bought Clausholm and made many of the changes which can be seen today.
