Monuments

Randers has many statues and monuments. Some are of great importance to the area, some of which have been erected in honour of distinguised persons. Other monuments have been erected to give the town a distinctive mark.

Byport 2

(Town Gate 2) is executed by Jens Flemming Sørensen and was revealed in 1996. It was donated by Den Selvejende Institution Randers Teater (The Private Foundation Randers Theatre) in memory of Randers Theatre which used to be situated in Østergade and was bombed during the Second World War as a retribution for sabotage. It's situated in Østergade 16.

Den Jydske Hingst

The statue of the symbolic stallion is by Helen Schou, and was erected in 1969 in memorial of the renowned Randers horse markets and the skilled breeding of working horses. Along with the Randers Dragoons, the horse market and breeding activities gave Randers its reputation as an equine centre. The statue is situated at Østervold.

Kapel til nutiden - byport 3 

(Town Gate 3) was donated by a number of companies and funds, e.g. The Cultural Fund. The title of the town gate is "Chapel to the modern age". The material is 25,000 stones of which the surface bricks have colours changing from red to yellow. Moreover, a molding of glazed bricks in the colours ochre, green and blue is put in. It's situated in Adelgade 10.
Niels Ebbesen

Niels Ebbesen

On November 2., 1882, the danish, national hero Niels Ebbesen finally received his monument of honour at Rådhustorvet in Randers. Niels Ebbesen (app. 1318-85) went down in history as the patriot who set Denmark free of German rule. The year was 1340, and Jutland was pledged to the German Count Gert III. What happened was that Niels Ebbesen separated the count's head from his body in one stroke and thus set Jutland free. The material of the statue is made out of canons from the warship Dannebrog and it was executed by the artist F. E. Ring.

Red Fall

Red Fall is a sculpture that speaks to all the senses: the sound of the water fall, the humidity of the air, the movements of the water reflecting the light and making it all alive. The sculpture is made by the artist Ingvar Cronhammer in 2002 and is situated at the end of Østervold close to the harbour.

De tre Søjler

The three Columns were revealed in 2004, and done according to a model, that was made by the fellow townsman and multi artist Sven Dalsgaard in 1993. The sculpture is 6 m’s tall and situated in Byparken at Randers Bro (Randers Bridge), and made of fibercon-crete. This town gate symbolizes the fjord as the eastern waterway to Randers.

Randers Venus

Randers Venus is created by the artist Peter Carlsen as a ceramic relief placed on the eastgable of the administrationbuilding og the local government. The relief that is 4m high, was donated byNordea Denmark Fond, and revealed in 2002. As in the myth of the faamborn Venus, the naked girl of Randers rises from the waters of the stream Gudenåen with the salmons - another of the symbols of Randers - jumping about her.

Krukken

The sculpture "Krukken" (the jar) is created by the artist Mogens Møller and revealed in 1990. "Krukken" is 6 m high, done in copper and placed at the tip of a small island in the outflow of the river Gudenåen next to Randers Bro (bridge). It is shaped as a greek amphora, from which a mist of water is sent into the air, breaking the light into colours of the rainbow before it pours down over a little girl with an umbrella.
